What are Dental Veneers?
Veneers are thin layers of porcelain that are adhered to the outside of a patient’s teeth. Typically they are only done to the front teeth (or those that are visible). Getting dental veneers involve two separate dental appointments as the veneers themselves are made offsite at a professional dental laboratory. At the first appointment, the teeth are prepared fully and impressions are made. The teeth have a temporary covering applied to them during this dental appointment.
After the cosmetic dentist receives the impressions, the temporaries are removed and they are bonded to the teeth. These veneers are made of either porcelain or pressed ceramic. They are preferable to crowns as less of the tooth or teeth are removed during this procedure. However, dental veneers are not recommended for anyone with large fillings or those with little teeth structure in place.
